PHOTOLUMINESCENCE OF PRECIOUS MINERALS
March 12, 2025. The Russian Federal Forensic Center named after Professor A.R. Shlyakhov under the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation held a workshop “Discussion of problems related to multiobjectivity in forensic mineralogical examination”
LLC “Diamond STC” presented the report
“PHOTOLUMINESCENCE OF PRECIOUS MINERALS":
- all the various precious minerals luminesce well, but each in a unique way. With today's technology, visual analysis of a mineral's color is no longer sufficient; spectroscopy techniques must be applied to reliably identify a sample;
- Analysis of luminescence spectra, in addition to the known gemological methods of analysis, allows not only to reliably separate diamonds and precious minerals from simulants, natural crystals from laboratory grown and refined ones, but sometimes even to determine the mineral deposit by the unique composition of impurities;
- the use of laser sources of different spectral ranges allows
very effective use of Raman light scattering in different crystals for identification.

Advanced methods of diagnostics of diamonds and other precious minerals with the help of “AVRORA DIAMOND INSPECTOR” devices manufactured by “Almazny NTK” Ltd. were demonstrated, embodying the latest technologies, methods of analysis and identification.

Experts of the laboratories of the Russian Center for Combating Organized Crime named after Prof. A.R. Shlyazov. Prof. A.R. Shlyakhov of the Ministry of Justice of Russia highly appreciated the methodology and equipment of Diamond STC LLC. n
